Balance vs Busy

Let's get real. Being busy ALL THE TIME can easily lead to burn out. In a world that glorifies hustle culture, being busy is often seen as a badge of honor. The fuller your calendar, the more accomplished you must be—right? But beneath the surface of constant activity lies a deeper truth: busyness without balance can lead to burnout, a deregulated nervous system, and emotional exhaustion.

True success and well-being don’t come from how much you do but from how well you maintain balance. Here’s why balance matters more than busyness and how to cultivate it in your daily life.

The Downside of Being Constantly Busy

While staying productive can feel rewarding, chronic busyness takes a toll on both the mind and body. Here’s what happens when you’re always “on”:

Burnout Becomes Inevitable

Burnout isn’t just about being tired; it’s a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress. You might notice:

Constant fatigue, no matter how much sleep you get
Feeling detached from work, relationships, or personal goals
A sense of hopelessness or lack of motivation

The irony? Burnout often hits those who are passionate and driven the hardest.

Your Nervous System Becomes Deregulated

When you’re always rushing from one task to another, your nervous system stays stuck in “fight or flight” mode. This can lead to:

Increased cortisol (the stress hormone)
Digestive issues, headaches (I've felt this one), and muscle tension
Trouble sleeping, even when you're exhausted

Without enough time to rest and reset, your body never returns to its natural state of calm.

Emotional Health Suffers

Busyness can act as a distraction from deeper emotions. When you don’t pause to process stress, it can show up as:

Increased anxiety or irritability
Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected
Difficulty finding joy in things you once loved

Ignoring your emotional needs for the sake of productivity only pushes you further from self-love and inner peace.

Physical Health Declines

Being busy often means skipping meals, skimping on sleep, and ignoring self-care. Over time, this can lead to:

Weakened immunity (more colds, anyone?)
Heart issues and high blood pressure
Hormonal imbalances, including adrenal fatigue

Your body can only run on empty for so long before it forces you to slow down.

Why Balance Matters More Than Busyness

Balance is about harmonizing productivity with rest, action with reflection. It’s not about doing nothing but about honoring your energy cycles—knowing when to push forward and when to step back. Listen to what your body needs.

With balance, you’ll find:

More clarity: Mental space allows for better decision-making.
Emotional resilience: You respond rather than react to challenges.
A regulated nervous system: Your body stays in “rest and digest” mode more often.
More creativity: Inspiration flows when your mind isn’t cluttered.

How to Shift from Busy to Balanced

Prioritize Rest: Schedule downtime like you would any important task.
Set Boundaries: Learn to say no to things that drain your energy or don't align with your schedule. (THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!)
Practice Self-Care: Daily meditation, Reiki, or gentle movement can reset your nervous system.
Embrace Slow Living: Do one thing at a time, mindfully and with presence.
Tune Into Your Body: Notice when you’re running on adrenaline and pause to breathe. (I like the 4-fold breath/box breathing for this)

Being busy might feel productive in the moment, but it’s balance that sustains long-term well-being. Life isn’t a race—it’s a rhythm. By honoring both work and rest (work/life balance), action and stillness, you create space for healing, creativity, and joy. Remember, you are worthy of peace, not just productivity.

What is Earthing?

Walking barefoot on the earth, also known as "earthing" or "grounding," has gained attention in recent years due to the potential health benefits it can offer. Some potential benefits of walking barefoot on the earth include: Connection to Nature: Walking barefoot allows for direct contact with the earth, providing a sense of connection to nature. This can have psychological benefits such as reduced stress, improved mood, and increased feelings of well-being. Electrical Grounding: The earth has a negative electrical charge, and walking barefoot on the ground allows for the transfer of electrons from the earth into the body. This process is believed by some to neutralize excess positive charge (free radicals) in the body, which may have antioxidant effects and promote overall health. Reduced Inflammation: Some proponents of earthing suggest that it may help reduce inflammation in the body by balancing the body's electrical systems and reducing the accumulation ...
