The Dolman Sleeve

The dolman sleeve (or also known as the batwing), first seen in the 1910’s, but truly made an impression in the 1940’s, is reinventing itself year after year! It started off with an exaggerated armhole tapering at the wrist but with each passing season, the sleeve has become tapered all over and more slenderizing! Although the dolman sleeve was hot this summer with light weight fabrics, this fall is ALL about the dolman sleeve. Look for this sexy style blouse in fabrics such as rayon, modal (type of rayon), cotton, and nylon! Round framed sunglasses, originating from artists such as John Lennon, Elton John and even Ozzy Osbourne, has become a huge hit this summer! Round sunglasses create a classy, sophisticated style without being too dramatic. It adds just the right amount of flare and edge to an everyday look. This trend has been seen on stars: Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashion, Mary Kate Olsen, and Victoria Beckham.

Tip of the week- Leggings/Skinny Jeans

The common misconception about leggings and skinny jeans is that they have to hit at the ankle, but bending the rules a bit is where the fun is at! By wearing leggings and/or skinny jeans that are a little longer, you are able to scrunch them at the ankle creating a fun, edgy, new look!

Fall 2011

Let’s take a sneak peak at what we can expect this coming fall season. Men: Although the slim fit look has been a huge hit, a more relaxed, casual fit is taking over this season! The slim fit is not in the least bit OUT though. Men’s suits are tailored even more this season looking sexier than ever! Women: The 70’s inspired looks is still on the rage! This includes bell bottoms and wide leg pants, as well as the long maxi dresses (but for this season they are in darker colors and heavier fabrics). Unisex: Fur and especially faux fur are a big hit this season! Also anything baggy and oversized are perfect for layering in this cool season. Hair: The messy look is here to stay! Whether you have short hair, long hair, you’re a man or a woman, the messy do is a DO this fall! Accessories:   Leather for both men and women are going to be tearing up the fall season! Whether it be; leather belts, bags, shoes, bracelets, cuffs, and even chokers, leather is keeping this fall season edgier t

Tip of the week- Hair

Ladies: haven’t had time to get in the salon and your roots are growing out quickly? Quick fix: instead of parting your hair with an even line, create a messy part where the roots won’t be seen as visibly. Guys: bad hair day? The same logic goes for you as well! Create a messy do as opposed to a sleek and even do. This will be able to hide any flaws or ‘hat hair’ for the day.

Color Blocking

Color blocking is the technique where blocks of fabrics are sewn together to create clothing with a few different solid colors. Color blocking is not a new trend, in the least, but it is a trend that keeps reoccurring season-season! Both men and women are drawn to color blocking because it allows you to wear multiple colors without over thinking it! It is not a hard look to achieve but there are a few key points to keep in mind when color blocking. First, do not try and match similar colors to closely together. If you have three shades of blue and they are all very similar then it can look mismatched and messy. Second, pair colors that look great with each other! Ex: black and white, beige and blue, brown and green… Third, if wearing accessories or adding a third, or more, color to your color blocking choreography, then stick a neutral in the mix!

Tip of the week

Men, there are a few no-no’s which should never be worn at home and especially in public! To start off, save the short shorts for the ladies! We don’t need to see what you have underneath (save it for the bedroom)! Anything too excessively baggy, which makes you look like a clown, or extremely tight, again, we don’t need to see what you’re packing. Also, pants that hang off your bum just doesn’t look attractive and makes you look, well like a bum. It’s just plain tacky! To avoid any of these mess haps wear a belt if the pants are a little too big. Find clothing which allows you to breathe without making you look like a parachute. A nice slim fit jean, belt, fitted button down military shirt, and a skinny tie is the perfect well put together look to go out in!

Details

Little details and embellishments on a garment/accessory can make or break an outfit. Here are a select few which you can look for (or even add on yourself) to spruce up an outfit and stay true to your personal sense of style. You can even try mixing and matching details to get a funky look! Feminine- Try details such as embroidery (this is a bohemian style as well), ribbons, and lace! They add a little feminine touch to an everyday outfit. Edgy- Try details such as zippers, studs and chains! They add a little rough around the edges appeal without going overboard! Glam- Try details such as sequins, diamonds/crystals and ruffles! They add a fem look but are not afraid to make a statement. Sophisticated- Try details such as bows, pearls, and neck ties (women even have their own ties now)! They add a professional feel to an outfit but are never boring! Bohemian- Try details such as beads, straps (such as belt straps, straps on handbags/shoes) and bandanas/scarves. They add a natural earth
